Selector Lever Cannot Be Operated

Canceling Shift-Lock System

The shift-lock system prevents shifting out of P unless the brake pedal is depressed.

To shift from P:

  1. Depress and hold the brake pedal.

  2. Start the hybrid system.

  3. Press and hold the lock-release button.

  4. Move the selector lever.

 


  • When the vehicle power to ACC or the vehicle power is switched off, the selector lever cannot be shifted from P position.

  • The ignition cannot be switched to OFF if the selector lever is not in P position.

Shift-Lock Override

If the selector lever is locked in the P position and it cannot be moved, use the following procedure to unlock the shift-lock system.

  1. Make sure that the EPB indicator light is turned on.

  2. Lift the rear end of the left and right panels of the console using a flathead screwdriver with the end wrapped in a clean cloth.

    Detach the clips in the order starting from the rear.

  3. Pull the left and right panels of the console rearward and remove them.

  4. Lift the shift panel and detach the clips.

    When removing the shift panel, do not apply excessive force to the wiring. Otherwise, the wiring could be damaged.

  5. Press and hold the shift-lock release lever with the shift panel raised.

  6. Move the selector lever.

Take the vehicle to an Authorized Mazda Dealer to have the system checked.
