What part of the air bag is being replaced?
Only the air bag inflator is under recall, and the replacement part addresses the safety concerns from the recall.
How do I get my vehicle repaired? How much will the repair cost?
A Mazda Retailer will replace the affected air bag inflator free of charge. Please schedule an appointment with your nearest authorized Mazda Retailer for parts reservation and repair.
My air bag inflator has been repaired in the past; will I need to get it repaired again?
If you had an interim air bag inflator installed under any Takata safety recall, you will need to bring your vehicle to an authorized Mazda Retailer for the permanent repair, which will be done free of charge. In order to ensure you have the latest air bag inflator installed, it is best to contact an authorized Mazda Retailer to review the vehicle’s history.
I’ve heard of an airbag inflator from Autoliv or TRW, how is this different than a Takata airbag inflator?
Autoliv and TRW parts use guanidine nitrate as the air bag inflator propellant material, whereas Takata inflators use phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (“PSAN”).
Why did Mazda change from using the Takata airbag inflator to an airbag inflator manufactured by Autoliv or TRW?
Mazda made the change to alternate suppliers Autoliv and TRW because Mazda decided that it would be best to stop using air bag inflators that use phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (“PSAN”). Sourcing parts from other manufacturers also provided an improved parts availability timeline.
How do I schedule a repair appointment? How long will the repair take?
We understand your time is valuable. Scheduling an appointment ahead of time with an authorized Mazda Retailer will allow an opportunity to reserve the necessary replacement part for your vehicle and help minimize your wait time and inconvenience. A new air bag inflator will take approximately one hour to install but your retailer may need more time with your vehicle.
Are parts currently available?
Mazda is continuously working with the suppliers to ensure that sufficient replacement parts are available for affected vehicles. Please use the VIN search function above to check your recall status:
A “Recall Incomplete” status means a replacement part is available for your vehicle. Please schedule an appointment with an authorized Mazda Retailer for parts reservation and repair.
A “Recall Incomplete Remedy Not Yet Available” status means a replacement part is not yet available for your vehicle, please continue to check back as well as look for further communications from Mazda concerning parts availability.

How will the Retailer repair the vehicle?
Retailers will install a new frontal air bag inflator.
I already had my air bag inflator replaced. Will I get another recall notice?
If you had an interim air bag inflator repair performed, the new inflator will not experience air bag chemical degradation for at least six years. Before that time, you or your vehicle’s previous owner(s) will have received subsequent notices by priority mail from Mazda to bring in your vehicle for the permanent repair inflator. To ensure you have the latest air bag inflator installed, please contact an authorized Mazda Retailer.
Does this apply to all the air bags in my vehicle?
This recall applies only to certain driver and/or passenger frontal air bags in the affected vehicles.
